How to maintain my Cristel stainless steel cookware?

2023-10-19

You purchased stainless steel cookware by CRISTEL and would like to know how to maintain it properly? These French-made products are of very high quality and guaranteed for life indeed. Nonetheless, to ensure their durability, it is essential to take good care of them. However, maintaining your stainless steel cookware is not a inborn skill. Discover now all our pieces of advice to correctly maintain your CRISTEL stainless steel cookware.

What products to favor?

If you are looking for tips to maintain your stainless-steel pans or pots, the best advice we can give you is to resort to natural, non-toxic, biodegradable solutions.

In fact, if you wish to take care of your stainless-steel cookware and protect the environment at the same time, using natural products is the best solution. Among the most effective natural products are baking soda, white vinegar, natural citric acid and even CRISTEL’s RENOX ecologically-responsible products.

What products to avoid?

If it is recommended to use natural products, some mistakes must be avoided too if you do not want to damage your CRISTEL products. With such high quality, stainless steel cookware, it is best to do everything to take care of it and protect it as much as possible. As a result, we absolutely advise you against using abrasive or acidic products. This means all products like bleach, anti-limescale and even chlorine are to be banished.

Likewise, you really must not scour your stainless-steel pans and pots with an over-abrasive scrubbing sponge or wire wool. On a different note, do not use stainless steel utensils in a stainless-steel pot or pan with non-stick coating either.

Long-term maintenance

For long-life maintenance, you should take on certain gestures on a daily basis. For example, it is recommended not to overheat your utensils, especially if they have non-stick coating. Ideally, you should not exceed 2/3rds of your hotplate’s maximum power during cooking.

If your pan is still hot, deglaze it with water before washing it. That way, residues will be easier to remove. If your pan is cold and you want to clean it, mix dishwashing liquid with CRISTEL’s RENOX inox for uncoated cookware or with CRISTEL's RENOX c9 for utensils with non-stick coating. Then, heat the mixture up, turn off your hotplate and leave to work for 30 minutes. Or else, you can also wash in a dishwasher.

Specificities

In certain cases, you may notice stains of various hues in your pans or pots. Do not worry, there are solutions to remove them, depending on the stain’s color.

If stains are rainbow-colored (caused by starch from pasta, rice or potatoes), they will gradually vanish. If stains are small and white- or grayish (caused by pouring salt in cold water), you should clean your cookware with either a mix of water and vinegar or with CRISTEL's RENOX inox, and then rinse and wipe duly. If stains are light yellow or brown and are found on the inside or the outside of your pan (caused by overheating of the pan), all you have to do is use a stainless steel-specific cleaning product to remove them (RENOX inox works fine too).

Finally

Proper maintenance of your stainless steel cookware is rather important if you want to preserve it as long as possible. Make sure to solely use products that are neither noxious nor abrasive to your stainless-steel pans and pots.
