Stainless steel: Cristel’s signature material

Safe material - PFAS-free
100% recyclable
Enhances the flavour of your food
Stable for cooking
Durable with a lifetime warranty

The very best material

CRISTEL, a French manufacturer of cookware, has chosen stainless steel as its signature material from the outset for a number of reasons.

CRISTEL stainless steel:

  • Is a completely safe material
  • Is made from 87% recycled stainless steel
  • Is 100% recyclable
  • Is particularly stable for cooking
  • Is durable and comes with a lifetime warranty
  • Is non-stick when used properly (see the water drop test below). It can be used to achieve the Maillard Reaction, enhancing the flavour of your meat and vegetables during cooking.

Selecting stainless steel cookware offers durability, resistance and performance, with no doubts about its safety!

Why opt for CRISTEL non-stick cookware?

It is often easier to cook the most delicate foods such a eggs, pulses and fish using non-stick cookware.

That is why CRISTEL also offers cookware with a PTFE non-stick coating, free from PFOA and PFOS.

What are PFAS?

In the broad family of PFAS, there are inert and toxic varieties. The one we use in our coatings, PTFE, is part of the “inert” family. In other words, they do not pose any danger to human health.

It is their high degree of resistance over time to water, impacts and heat that gives them their stability. They are considered “eternal” as they do not interact with the environment in any way that would enable them to break down.

This inertness is also true for the human body, that is why PTFE, even if ingested accidentally, has no effect on health.

We have designed our manufacturing process as a closed water circuit, with no discharge from our industrial process into the environment.

The products we apply do not contain any PFAS that are hazardous to human health.

Our non-stick coating has been selected for its high-performance and enhanced stability.

Regular checks are carried out by independent laboratories approved by the health authorities to ensure its suitability for food use. Our coating is applied to our stainless steel products at our manufacturing plant in Fesches-le-Châtel, in the French department of Doubs.

There is no such thing as the perfect non-stick coating.

For many years, our R&D teams have been working to develop a non-stick coating that is even more durable that our current one.

Ceramic-based coatings are currently on the market, and as far back as 2009, CRISTEL offered such a solution with its Céram’in coating, but because this type of coating is very fragile, it is less durable than the one we currently offer (it cannot withstand very high temperatures or mechanical impacts).

A frying pan made from PTFE will last between two to three times longer than a ceramic frying pan, and therefore, in our view, using a ceramic coating makes no sense in environmental terms. Furthermore, given that this coating is a complex compound, for which there is no long-term data or studies such as those that have been conducted on “traditional” coatings, there is currently no guarantee that this type of coating is completely safe.

CRISTEL stainless steel remains the best alternative for healthy and durable cooking.

What is the best way to cook with CRISTEL stainless steel?

With the exception of fish, stainless steel cookware is non-stick when used properly. If heated to the right temperature for cooking, your stainless steel cookware will brown all your food perfectly and ensure that all your meals taste great.
